100 days and counting

In honour of my 100th post, I’d like to take a moment and pay tribute to the uniquely Korean matching couple wear phenomenon.

After 100 days of dating, young couples like to show their affection to the world boldly, by wearing the same threads. This can sometimes be just a T-shirt or hat, however, I’ve seen it extended into entire matching outfits, from hat to shirt to shorts to shoes to bag.

A few years ago, a friend of mine got a new phone from a student who had broken up with her boyfriend and was no longer in need of a couple phone.

Take a stroll down to Haeundae beach and you’ll see loads of young Koreans in love, strolling hand in hand down the boardwalk, sporting matching pink Mickey Mouse T-shirts.

However, the matching couple wear extends beyond just the 100 day anniversary, but sometimes to 200 or 300 days, Christmas, honeymoons, traveling- usually flight day and anything else deemed important enough to be couple wear worthy.

There are even stores where one can find meet all matching couple wear necessities.

Here are a few from a day at Shinsegae.

Happy 100!
